Industrial Coatings, Patches, Repairs and Surface Preparation for KY,TN,IN and WV

Industrial Coatings, Patches, Repairs and Surface Preparation for Commercial Painting in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio & Indiana

SURFACE PREPARATION – STEPS & METHODS  for CLEANING AND DEGREASING:

All residue – traces of oil and grease and other contaminants must be removed before grinding or shot blasting.  Grinding and shot blasting without cleaning will only push contamination deeper into the porous concrete surface. Use oil and grease emulsifiers to clean thoroughly.  Stubborn or heavy residue areas may require repeated applications.  Only then will the surface be ready for Industrial Coatings or a Commercial Painting in Indiana & Kentucky

MECHANICAL PREPARATION:

Methods such as Shot and Sand Blasting, Scarifying, Diamond Grinding, Grinding/Sanding, Key Cuts and Water Jetting and Blasting are examples of effective means of mechanical surface preparation.

Below is a brief summary of these methods with features, benefits and limitations:

Shot Blasting,  The preferred method of mechanical preparation that strips thin coatings, cleans and profiles simultaneously.  It is suitable for large and small areas, delivers high production rates, dust free, dry and cost-effective.  The excess shot must be swept-up after blasting.

Scarifying Method uses metal or carbide disks that rotate at high speeds.  Levels uneven floors and edges of concrete. Removes adhesives and thick film coatings. Dusty, very slow and labor intensive. Leaves very rough profile only fit for high build coatings.

Diamond Grinding – Diamond bits are used to grind the surface.  Leaves a very smooth profile, ideal for thin film system applications. Low dust levels. Removes epoxies and urethanes. Slower than other methods.

Grinding/Sanding Prepares, cleans and abrades existing coatings for recoat and helps smooth aggregate floors. Is slow and labor intensive.

Key Cuts Masonry saw cuts/small grooves (approx.1/4inch deep) made around drains, doors and transitions.  These serve as anchor points for the epoxy system, limit sections of failure and reduce undercutting by chemicals.

Water Jetting or Blasting – Water sprayed at extremely high pressure (5,000-40,000 psi) with enough force to profile concrete, remove laitance, contamination and unsound concrete.  No dust is generated, tight spaces can be prepared and different profiles can be achieved.  Eliminates need for harsh chemicals.  Sufficient water source must be available, time required for thorough drying.

PATCHING AND REPAIR

Settling cracks – repair after the sealer is applied and before finish coating.  Expansion joints should be repaired and filled with epoxy after the coating system is in place.  When patching apply sealer to crevice to be repaired before applying epoxy patch.   This will enhance the bond strength of the patch.   Apply epoxy / aggregate mixture immediately after mixing – spread with trowel – grind off excess.  This process should be considered before any renovation or remodeling project is initiated or completed.

A great industrial floor coating is the foundation of every manufacturing plant, industrial site or warehouse. The floor of any factory takes a beating, wear and tear.

Foot traffic, hand trucks and pallet movers put a lot of stress on a floor coating.

Combined with the assault from chemicals, spills and impact, the daily wear and tear on a factory floor is relentless.

A high quality industrial floor coating improves the safety of your manufacturing facility.

Standing up to this kind of punishment requires floor coatings with the highest levels of performance, durability and protection.

Plus, those floor coatings must be properly applied to get the greatest benefits from the materials.

At HPP we are your industrial floor coating experts. More years in the business and more experience than all our competitors combined.

We have years of hands-on experiences – with high performance floor coatings. Wears well and makes the factory floor look great and safer.

Plus, our clients are facility managers for industries much like yours.

A non slip solution for factory or warehouse floors must be rugged, durable and offer a high degree of slip resistance.  Safety is first and foremost.

Generally speaking, these types of floors are concrete and may have some sort of an epoxy finish.

Our Professional Industrial Coating Contractors have years of experience in providing coating solutions for many varied commercial and industrial installations.

  • Warehouses
  • Aircraft Hangars
  • Retail Showrooms
  • Restaurants
  • Commercial Kitchens
  • Manufacturing Facilities
  • Auto and Machine Shops

In 2018 we will work with you to evaluate your needs and discuss the many systems and products we have available.

We understand that a small difference in the per square foot cost between a typical epoxy floor and a modern polyurea system can become a major factor when considering the refinishing of tens of thousands of square feet, and that is why we offer multiple systems.

  • Epoxy floor coatings
  • Hybrid polyurethane topcoats
  • Polyaspartic polyurea systems
  • Densified and polished concrete
  • Slip resistant coatings
  • Solid colors, stained concrete, and simulated granite finishes

There’s a good reason why concrete is used almost exclusively for floors in basements and garages, warehouse facilities and manufacturing and food processing plants — it’s one of the few materials durable enough to stand up to the heavy traffic, abrasion, chemicals, and moisture exposure these surfaces are often subject to.

However, that doesn’t mean concrete slabs are indestructible. Left untreated without a concrete coating the porous materials that concrete is made of can succumb to extreme abuse, such as tire traffic, exposure to harsh chemicals and deicing salts, and frequent moisture contact.

These epoxies all called 100% solids because they do not have any solvents in them, and 100% of all the material stays on the floor rather than evaporating into the atmosphere. The added benefit to using 100% solid coatings is that because they contain no solvent, they have no hazardous odor and can be installed during regular production hours.

That’s where a good protective coating comes into play, giving concrete that extra layer of protection it needs to endure constant wear and tear.  In addition to its protective function, a coating can also dress up a drab surface, simplify maintenance and improve skid resistance.

As the floor wears, rough spots and potholes form, to take their toll on mobile equipment. Higher wheel replacement cost and equipment downtime become inevitable. But this doesn’t have to happen to you.

Concrete floors can have their deterioration stopped and the damage reversed.  Advances in epoxy technology have developed coatings that can protect a concrete floor and extend its life, while eliminating the dusting it had previously been producing.

The non slip solution for factory floor coating for these environments must have a very coarse texture and be able to handle a lot of friction from pallets, boxes, foot traffic, fork lifts and the like.  Factory & Warehouses Floors & Floor protection and Warehouse, protective coatings.

Protect your factory floor coating or warehouse workers from slip and fall accidents and the heavy liabilities that accompany those injuries in 2018 with HPP Industrials.

Why UV-PCO Technology will change your facility maintenance plan forever

Ultraviolet Photocatalytic Oxidation (UV-PCO) technology sounds space age, doesn’t it? In truth, it’s nanotechnology in action. It uses light — from the sun or fluorescent fixtures — to activate a mineral in our products called titanium dioxide (TiO2). The TiO2 quickly breaks down organic molecules, such as grime, bio-film, smog and VOCs, that are then washed away with the rain. Because the process never uses up the TiO2, the self-cleaning process can happen over and over again, even with just one application.

Acid Spill Containment for Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia

Acid spill containment systems are very similar between the different manufactures.   Some manufactures have products that can be used on existing battery installations without having to remove the existing racks, others you must remove the racks and install the spill containment before reinstalling the racks.

HPP has acid spill containment systems which allows us to provide for both new installations and existing installations with the best solutions available.

Basically if your battery system has 50 gallons or more of electrolyte,  whether it is wet or in gel form as in a VLRA battery, then you are required to have an acid spill containment system installed. This applies even if it is an existing battery system .The spill containment system will need a 4 inch lip with acid adsorbing/neutralizing  pillows inside the containment field to meet current regulations with some type of protection for the floor, whither it is an epoxy paint or a liner. In California the spill containments and pillows must be serialized to insure that you are keeping fresh pillows in the system and for disposal purposes. The neutralizing pillows have a shelf life of about 5 years, they will be required to be changed out and replaced with new ones after this time.

Another item that your facility should have, is what we call an acid spill kit. The kit is for use when working with batteries and an acid spill occurs that needs to be cleaned up and neutralized. This can happen when replacing batteries and a battery has a crack in the case and leaks acid out. The kit consists of a container of acid neutralizer and protective clothing. These kits can be in a small pail for smaller installation or in a drum for larger installations. Also the kit can be mounted in the battery room in a cabinet for easy access.

Industrial Coatings for Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Machinery & Equipment Refurbishing, Renovating, Painting, Coating, Protective Sealants, Rust & Corrosion Prevention

Industrial Coatings for:

Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia and Tennessee

Machinery & Equipment Refurbishing, Renovating and Painting

Coatings, Protective Sealants, Rust & Corrosion Prevention

Today’s machinery and industrial equipment are equipped with sensitive electrical and mechanical components.  Structural Steel, Ceiling Beams, Plant & Factory Supports – Rust, Corrosion and Protection of Louisville Kentucky and Indiana.

While it’s easy to see how the appearance on a machine’s exterior is degrading, peeling or oxidizing, to prevent extremely accelerated wear and premature equipment replacements costs, it’s critical to give attention to the effects highly corrosive agents can have on the machine’s internal connections, engine compartment, and undercarriage.

Structural Steel, Ceiling Beams, Plant & Factory Supports – Rust, Corrosion and Protection can be a difficult undertaking to control, prevent and mitigate common corrosive agents from disabling and destroying equipment.  And while machines all have different jobs and operate in diverse environments, a protective coating will help shield every single one from harmful corrosive environments that cause equipment decay and breakdown, which leads to increased downtime, lost revenue and shorter machine life.

Waxes and polishes can prevent some corrosion, but they are not designed to cover every part of a machine (specifically internal) and they require regular polishing and buffing; time that mission critical equipment could be spending in the field.

The cost to coat a machine can provide a substantial return on investment. The coating materials and application are typically less than one percent of the machine cost, and new machine owners are able to capitalize the cost of coating.

A properly prepared and applied coating can provide many years of protection, generating significant cost savings in equipment maintenance and downtime.

Bottom line: by protecting your equipment today, you’ll be able to make and keep more money tomorrow.

Industrial Coatings, Different from Paint – A Contractor and Company in Louisville, KY

There’s a bit more to applying an industrial coating than just slapping it on with a brush, roller, or employing a sprayer.

Firstly, not all industrial coatings are the same. The selection of which coating will depend on several factors, primarily what type of substrate will the finish be going on. Is it steel, aluminum, wood? These are questions that should be answered and addressed before any type of coating is applied.

At Howell & Howell Contractors inc., we realize that it’s best to consult a coatings manufacturer for their advice when it comes to determining the correct product for a given application or project.  A manufacturer will have more experience with their products than anyone else.

Another thing to consider is the environment. There are factories and commercial locations where the weather conditions and physical environment, the coating will have to stand up to, are much different, due to what’s being produced at the plant or where it’s located.

Will it be a high moisture area? What about potential fumes from machinery, or chemicals? Will the surface be heating up and cooling down? Make sure that your estimator takes all of these things into consideration when speaking to your coatings manufacturer.

The last thing any industrial coating or commercial painting company in Louisville wants is to have to warranty an expensive finish because of not taking proper precautions when addressing a simple environmental issue during the initial consultation.

Surface preparation is a key factor. A lot of industrial coating or commercial painting companies fall short in this area. Very often a simple pressure washing or scraping followed by priming will not provide adequate cleaning for the new industrial finish to adhere for the long haul. A chemical wash or neutralizing agent of some sort may be necessary for a final cleaning to ensure that the newly applied finish has staying power. That’s where we go back to our product rep. After specifying a proper product you need to ensure that the preperation will be suitable for what’s going to be applied.

Different products require different solutions. Will the industrial painter you’ve hired to paint that oil storage container know this? Applying industrial finishes are not like residential interiors where it’s a straight forward painting process.

Give us a call or contact us. We will visit your site, and discuss your upcoming project.

We may need to schedule an additional visit so that our paint or coatings manufacturer can have a local representative on hand to give the best advice as well on the best and longest lasting finish possible.

We have extensive application knowledge in high performance coatings, protective linings, and other industrial coatings. Our all weather facilities are located in northwest Houston. Our experienced personnel serve our customers with quality, efficiency and dependability.

Our goal is to provide our clients with the best possible service in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. With the cooperation of management and personnel, we strive to achieve the highest customer satisfaction by supplying quality work and reliable service.

Howell & Howell Contractors, Inc. maintains the highest quality standards including NACE inspectors. Our highest priority is to provide quality workmanship, coating techniques, and industrial coating knowledge to better serve our customers.

Power and Pressure Blasting & Washing Services Louisville KY

We offer Power and Pressure Washing Services to all of our Louisville and Southern Indiana customers.

Call us at 502-491-7985 for a free pressure washing estimate.

Exterior Building Painting and Industrial Coatings projects are mostly prep work.

And most projects we do get a thorough pressure cleaning before the final scraping and painting or staining is applied.

We can also pressure wash your sidewalk and patio areas to give them that fresh clean look.

Typically we will use a product like TSP (tri-sodium-phosphate) with the pressure washing for that deep cleansing that’s necessary for a newly applied finish to stick really well.

Some things to know about pressure washing is that it can be very dangerous and expensive. Our machines generate pressures from 1600 psi all the way up to our big machines which can put out up to 3600 psi. Simply put that’s enough pressure to gouge wood or concrete, so one must be careful when handling such a tool. Replacing a piece of exterior trim or a trip to the emergency room is no way to spend your day. Pressure washing is always best performed by a professional.

If you need something pressure cleaned or are having the exterior of your building or business re-painted or stained. Make sure the company you hire preps it properly with a thorough pressure cleaning and that they do it in a safe manner.

Some other items we pressure wash are:

  • Brick Exteriors

  • Concrete Exteriors and Flooring

  • Decks and Privacy Fences

  • Locker Rooms

  • Stadiums and Arenas

  • Driveways and Porches

  • Factory Walls and Floors
